The day will be crammed full of interesting and worthwhile events, beginning at 10 o’clock in the morning at Camp Sapphire and closing with the big street dance that night in front of the Bre vard high school. Attendance is expected to ex ceed last year’s record turnout of more than 5,000. As usual, the plant will be closed. Tickets and programs will be distributed throughout the plant Alonday. All three of the activities— . the boys’ coaching, the girls’ chor- ’ al and recreation program and the band camp—have been operating in full stride since the first part of June. Approximately 140 youngsters— more than triple the number in the school last year—have been going through the paces in the boys’ coaching school. More than 75 girls have been learning the fundamentals of mu sic in the choral and recreation school. They have also been re ceiving instruction in group sing ing and music appreciation. —Turn To Page Five Another Big Day Is Slated For Camp Sapphire Sunday Another big day is scheduled for Camp Sapphire Sunday, with a softball game and band concert supplementing the regular round of attractions. Our fast-stepping Ecusta soft- ballers may run into more than they can handle in the strong Elks Club team from Asheville. The visitors are currently listed as the No. 1 team in their city. This game is slated for 3 o’clock. The band will play a concert at 5 o’clock. This group is learning many new numbers at band camp now in session. Straus, is pictured on the right above as he was awarded the hon orary degree of Doctor of Engineering during the N. C. State College’s 58th commencement pro gram. Registrar W. h. Mayer (center) adjusts Mr. Straus’ academic robe while Dr. J. H. Lampe, dean of Engineering at State College, looks on. Citation for the degree was read by Chancellor J. W. Harrelson of State College, and the degree was conferred by Dr. Frank P.
